A Career in Journalism.

This is the media age. Thousands of television and radio channels, newspapers, magazines and journals compete for the viewers’, listeners’ and readers’ attention. Adding to the competition is the Internet, considered by many as the ultimate medium of all.

Each of these offers an ocean of opportunity to the student of journalism. There’s news. There’s business. There’s entertainment and glamour. There are sports. There are hobbies and pastimes like cooking and adventure sports. Besides a hundred other topics in the infotainment arena.

Each of them requires young, dynamic talent with the intelligence to create interest in these subjects. That’s the scope journalism offers. Whatever subject you are good at, whatever language you are comfortable with, there’s space for someone like you.

If you love writing, if you have a natural curiosity, if you love presenting well researched, well written work, then journalism is perfect for you. So how do you enter this exciting and challenging field?

First, be really good at the subject you choose. If you don’t get to choose, learn enough about the subject through research so that you speak or write from an intelligent standpoint.

Before that, however, you might find it necessary to do a course in communications and journalism. These are available in almost all cities, but not very common, so in many cases you’ll need to search for these diplomas/degrees. Nonetheless, they are easy to find.

But in most cases, a course is not at all compulsory. A keen interest and sufficient ambition will do the job just as well, if you read and write a lot.

So all you need to do now is

1. Groom and present yourself well

2. Research your subject to give yourself confidence

3. Speak from the heart, with energy and passion

Remember, all the sports, games, books, films, arts and hobbies that you have invested your time on throughout your life will now become useful to your career.

ALL THE BEST, GIVE IT YOUR BEST SHOT.
