Is your Dream Company a Great Place to Work in?

You select the dream company you want to work with, based on all the rumours and stories you have heard and the feedback received. Before you decide on this company would you like to Google the company on the internet and find some facts, as against just rumours?

Given below are some attributes which helped some Indian companies to be selected as great places to work. Does your dream company follow any or all of these great HR practices?

A company where-

  • Employees get the required freedom to put their ideas in action.
  • An employee is treated as a member and a working partner.
  • One is appreciated.
  • There is open, two way communication.
  • There is transparency i.e. you know why things are happening/ why it is being done in a certain way.
  • There is minimum hierarchy; a flat organization.
  • You have the option of flexi- time or have a good work- life balance.
  • The family is also a part of the organization and all efforts are made to include them in most activities.
  • Your final compensation/ salary and career growth is based on your performance and not on position/ years of service.
  • The work environment is comfortable and you look forward to going to work.
  • There is a referral system in place which is an indirect indication that the employees are trusted and the company is happy to form a close knit group of like- minded people.
  • An effective orientation program is in place to orient newcomers which will help a member settle down in the shortest period.
  • Support is provided in case you are transferred to a new place; schools for children, transportation, accommodation etc. This shows that the company cares as much for your family and their well- being as you.
So, even if your dream company does not figure on the great places to work list, the very fact that they are trying to follow best HR practices is itself a sign that you will be joining a great company, if you get selected.
